The ‘CT-BW Analyzer & Docu’: An Add-on for SAP® BW solutions.
One foundation of the SAP® AG software is the integrated Business Warehouse Application (Netweaver BI/BW). Many companies are using this tool as a reporting platform.
The problem: Reporting solutions which are build with the help of the SAP® Business Warehouse often consists of many different technical objects (Queries, InfoCubes, DataStoreObjects, Transformations, InfoObjects, ….). It is often quite difficult to get an overview on all used objects and their relation, when using the provided standard tools. Questions like “How is this report field being filled with data ?” or “What source fields where used and how were they merged ?” can be the start of a lengthy analysis … And because there is currently no version management implemented (for the technical BW objects), you can only look at the current state of a BW object. As a result questions like: “What is the difference between the transformation logic now and 3 months ago” are also difficult to answer. A last point might be the tedious task of manually writing a technical documentation of the implemented BW solution (e.g. in Word® format).
The solution:
The ‘CT-BW Analyzer & Docu’ automatically analyzes and documents the complete data flow within a BW system. Starting at an InfoProvider, it goes through transformations, InfoSources, DataSources, data transfer processes, InfoPackages and InfoObjects. Relevant process chains and queries are also automatically documented. The analysis result can be generated in different file formats (Word, HTML, HTML-Help) and are completely customizable.
